Hello, I’m Nawres!

I’m a community activist with a Materials engineering degree from UOT. I’m extremely excited to run for a Ward I proudly called home for almost 10 years.

I grew up in a family that was and still committed to service, to reach out and helping others. I live in Mississauga with my family, everyday I work really hard to ensure that people can get better life and equal opportunities. It was through my work with women’s commissions, nonprofit organizations and local schools, where I knocked on thousands of doors, meeting people, listening to their stories that really convinced me it is time for change in our city council. And so finally, on June 29, I officially announced my plans to be closer to people, to listen and work for you all by running for City Council. I believe people need someone who makes a difference, a champion. With your support, I can be that champion.

I am the elder daughter and I have two sisters younger than me. I worked really hard since my childhood to make my family proud of me.

In pursuit for a better life with full freedom and security, my family and I immigrated to Canada as refugees.

From struggling to write my first resume, look for a job, contemplating whether or not I should go back to school. So finally, I utilized the resources around me and I lucked out and got hired to work in a designing and manufacturing company as a junior engineer. And I’m still working for that company.

And now I’m running for City Council to stand up for people, to invest in the community’s future and to make a change.
